Things That Your Retirement Community Won’t Tell You

Assisted Living Facility
Seniors at Assisted Living

An assisted living facility is a place where seniors can reside for a longer period of time. All types of personal care such as support with meals, medications, bathing, dressing, and transportation are provided to the seniors at the assisted living centers. An assisted living facility is a better option than a nursing home for seniors who are still able to be independent. But be careful while choosing an assisted living facility for your senior. If you are looking for the perfect assisted living facility, consider the following points:

Assisted Living is Not Forever

It is quite a big misconception that seniors are allowed to live in the assisted living residence for a long time. Most of the times, seniors fail to do so and it leads to the rush in the assisted living residence. Therefore, all of them cannot enjoy the benefits of the facilities at assisted living. This results in a shortage of beds, food, etc. Thus, if you are deciding to move to an assisted living facility keep it in mind that you have to live there for few years.

Expect the Rise in Prices Anytime

Prices for assisted living facilities are not usually fixed. These charges depend upon the services required for the senior because some of them are sicker and require special attention. The price range can vary from $2000-$6000 a month. Some retirement community facilities initially charge less fees and then later they increase the charges. It happens mostly when there is a new center opened and to attract customers, they charge very small fees starting out. But once they are at max capacity; they increase the living cost of the assisted living center. Be prepared to expect the price to increase over time.

No Doctor

When we leave our loved ones at these assisted living facilities, we expect they will be provided proper care with good medical services. But you might be shocked to learn that most assisted living residences do not even have a doctor or a registered nurse. Whenever you move in your seniors to a retirement community, make sure they are providing good medical services with a good doctor and nurses working with them.

It is easy to get impressed with the ambiance and decor of assisted living facilities but, you have to be very careful to go through their rules and regulations. Make sure they are providing the services that they mentioned in their rule book. The most important factor is the medical services and the cleanliness of the facility. Visit your seniors often so that you can make sure that they are comfortable living there.
